How TikTok Shop commission is calculated
Who sets your rate, how it is calculated, what refunds do to it, and when the money arrives.
For creators
Your first month: getting access, picking products, first videos, first LIVE.
To become a TikTok Shop creator, apply in the TikTok app. In the UK, go to Creator tools, then TikTok Shop; in the EU, open TikTok Studio, then TikTok Shop for Creators. TikTok’s UK and EU policies ask for 500 followers and age 18 or older; its US policy asks for 1,000 followers, a US base and identity verification.
With affiliate access, you add products from the Product Marketplace to your videos and LIVEs and earn a commission on each sale. You hold no stock and ship nothing. How to become a TikTok Shop creator depends on your market, so the UK, the EU and the Gulf come first.
The weeks below follow one order in every market. A requirement or limit that names no market is TikTok’s US rule, so UK and EU creators should check Creator Center for what applies to their account.
TikTok’s guide for each market gives this path in the app:
US eligibility, per TikTok’s creator eligibility policy:
In the US, if you have fewer than 5,000 followers, TikTok places you in the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program for at least 30 days, with up to three shoppable videos a day and three shoppable LIVEs a week. Plan your posts around those limits. TikTok Shop creator badges and levels explains how creators move up after that.
Products you promote appear in your profile showcase, where followers can browse and buy.
Open the Product Marketplace in your TikTok Shop Creator Center and filter by your niche. Before you add a product, check four things:
Start with a few products, so you can learn each one well before you add more.
TikTok’s UK guide to shoppable videos suggests a strong hook and a demo from several angles that shows the product’s features and benefits. TikTok’s EU best practices for creators add: show your face and talk to viewers directly. Before you post:
In the UK and the EU, mark affiliate content as an ad, upfront; the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority prefers a clear “Ad” label and says “aff” or “affiliate” on its own is likely not enough. In the US, the FTC expects a clear disclosure of any material connection, such as commission or a free product. Check your country’s advertising rules.
If you are in a pilot (the EU’s or the US’s), stay within its limits. Note which openings and products lead to clicks.
Go live once. TikTok’s US guidance for creators suggests at least 10 products in your shopping bag. Pin each product as you show it, and answer questions by name. If you are still under 5,000 followers after 30 days in the US pilot, TikTok may lift some pilot limits at its discretion. TikTok’s criteria for that include, for example, a short quiz, a minimum health rating and a LIVE of at least five minutes promoting TikTok Shop products. How TikTok LIVE shopping works covers the setup.
Then read your data in Creator Center:
Keep what sells, drop what does not, and request samples for the next round.
By the end of the month you have a month of your own data: which products, openings and posting times led to orders. Three next steps:
No. You can do all of this alone. A creator network can add brand introductions, samples, negotiated rates and coaching. Some networks take a share of your commission; INFLOW does not. Do you need a TikTok Shop agency? helps you judge whether that trade is worth it for you.
Rules change. Eligibility, pilot rules and limits differ by market and change over time.
A starting period with posting limits for new creators. In the US, creators under 5,000 followers spend at least 30 days in the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program, with up to three shoppable videos a day and three LIVEs a week (fewer if TikTok’s compliance checks set stricter limits). In Ireland, Spain, Italy, France and Germany, new creators may get a 30-day pilot with up to 21 shoppable videos a week. Creator badges and levels explains what comes after.
It depends on the market. TikTok’s UK and EU policies ask for 500 followers (in the EU, in the country you apply for) and age 18 or older. Its US policy asks for 1,000 followers, a US base and identity verification, and US creators under 5,000 followers start in a pilot with posting limits. LIVE access has its own threshold: How TikTok LIVE shopping works covers it.
No. Affiliate creators promote other sellers’ products from the Product Marketplace and earn commission on each sale, without holding stock or shipping anything. The products you promote appear in your profile showcase, where followers can browse and buy. Only sellers who list their own products need a shop of their own.
No. Products with an open collaboration are visible to all eligible creators, so you can add them to your showcase without an invitation. In the US, a seller can turn on approval, so only creators it approves take part. Invitations and target collaborations come on top. TikTok Shop affiliate plans explains the difference.
Not as a local creator in a closed market. TikTok’s US policy, for example, requires creators to be based in the US, and its EU policy counts followers in the country you apply for. You can learn the basics now. Where TikTok Shop is open lists each market’s status and the date we last checked it.
